Continuing on the making money during lock down trend, today I’m bringing you yet another creative and fun way to make money doing something you love.
So, if you are into creating tiny, cute stuff then you should definitely try making polymer clay earrings.
Here’s what you will need:
+ polymer clay in whatever colour you like
+ rolling pin
+ knife or clay cutter
+ jewelry pliers
+ earring posts and backs
+ jewelry jump rings with open connectors
+(optional) small circular cookie or clay cutters
+ super glue
+ cutting surface
+ parchment paper
+ baking sheet
Here are a few techniques you can use to make the polymer clay earrings:
Before beginning any the techniques, you should come up with colour palette that suits your style and your outfits. Also, preheat your oven at 110°C.
Technique 1: Marbling Technique
1. Choose a base colour and take a midsize sample of it.
2. Select 1-3 secondary colours and roll and take a smaller size of them compared to the base colour size.
3. Roll all your colours into clay “snakes”.
4. Wrap the other colours around the base colour and roll them together with your hands.
5. Blend the colours together by stretching and folding the clay, then roll them out flat. Repeat several times until you get a smooth like marble look.
6. Use a cookie cutter or clay cutter to shape it in the shape that you desire, the easiest is a circle.
Technique 2: Colour-Blocking Technique
1. Take two different colours of your choice and roll out into short, thick cylinders.
2. Lay side by side and put together until they are stuck to each other.
3. Use roller to flatten the colours together creating a colour block.
4. Cut into desired shape.
Here’s how to make them into earrings:
1. If you are using jump rings, then create the holes for them now. Take one of the earring posts and use the sharp end to create holes wherever it is needed, most likely the top.
2. place on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes at 110°C. Make sure the clay is completely flat!
3. Remove from oven and let them cool. If they hold their shape when you pick them up, they are cool enough.
4. To add earring posts: Put some glue on the top and add your earring post. Hold for 30 seconds and done!
5. To add jump rings: Use plyers to thread a jump ring to the bottom of the earring hoop then through the hole in the polymer clay that your created earlier. Use plyers to close off the jump ring hole. You are done!
Good Luck ~
