David J. Coleman, 38 was sentenced to 52 years in prison for repeatedly hanging and choking a 2-year-old with a headscarf as she lost and regained consciousness several times— an incident that he recorded on tape.

The child, who is his ex-girlfriend's daughter, miraculously survived. However, there's no telling how deep of psychological trauma she may deal with in the future. “There was extreme violence here,” Douglas County District Judge Duane Dougherty said in a statement . "When someone harms a child that age — or no matter the age — in that nature, it's as bad as it gets."

Coleman was exposed to his crimes when his then-girlfriend went through his phone and found the footage. The video shows Coleman wrapping a headscarf around the infant's neck and hanging it on the shelving unit, choking her. At one point, he'd pick up the child by the chest, as to stop the choking, only to let her go again, repeating the agonizing cycle.

Should the child had died from her injuries, Coleman would've been charged with first-degree murder.
