Based on reports, a female elephant calf was killed in a road accident that involved two vehicles of the Gerik-Jeli road in Ipoh.

The incident happened around 8.30pm on Apr 14 (Sunday).

“The 35-year-old driver of the SUV, with two other passengers, aged 39 and 44, travelling from Pasir Mas in Kelantan towards Gerik had crashed into the elephant that was crossing the road.

All passengers only sustained light injuries.

The baby elephant’s body was then handed over to the Perak Perhilitan department.

The OCPD also advised motorists to be extra careful when taking that road, as that stretch is known for its wildlife crossings, especially elephants.
