At his residence in Guar Perahu, Kubang Semang, today, a disabled man was found dead following a robbery, his mouth stuffed with a piece of cloth, his wrists and feet tied.
The victim, 40, was mute according to Helmi Aris, the chief of police in Seberang Perai Tengah.
His mother, who was in her 70's, was in another room, similarly confined. The criminals had taped and stuffed her mouth with cloth.
According to Free Malaysia Today, at 8:36 a.m., an elderly man reported to the police that his home had been broken into, his son was unconscious, and his wife was tied.
According to Helmi, paramedics from Bukit Mertajam Hospital confirmed the victim's death at the spot. Seberang Jaya Hospital received his body to be autopsied.
According to the police, two guys with parangs broke into the residence, tied up the two victims, and then ransacked the place. They ran off with a television set and cash.
A local guy who was in his 40s was taken into custody by police after the incident to aid with their investigation. The suspect has ten prior convictions for narcotics and criminal activity.
There are now efforts to locate the other suspect. The matter is being looked into for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Section 302 provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, shall be punished with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
