In our daily life, we will encounter various of pressure, unpleasant, grievances and disappointment, either from work, study, home and self. At this time, all we need is to sit down, having cup of coffee or tea and chatting with our besties or trusted people at a comfortable cafe.

Even with some special occasions or celebration, instead of hotel or high-end restaurant, we just would like to get a unique yet comfortable cafe to celebrate. Here, I would like to introduce few unique and comfortable cafe that you can check it out in Kota Kinabalu:

1. Nook Cafe

Nook Cafe initially was a small cozy cafe suitable for small gathering. Recently, it been expand and move to a bigger slot just opposite from a original location. Both indoor android and outdoor seat designed in contemporary concept. They do have live band at night too.

2. Laundroluxe 

The idea of merging ‘laundry’ + ‘luxury’. Sounds weird, right? But Laundroluxe perfectly blend the idea. 80% of the space designed in modern contemporary dining or serve as ‘waiting area’ while waiting for their laundry to be ready. Though the dining area initially design to be casualty dining, hence it is perfectly can be served as casual brunch or formal dining. You can actually do your laundry there too, at RM15/15Kg !!

3. Woo !

If you are looking for somewhere modern minimalist yet contemporary hangout to catch up with friends, family gathering or daring; whether for brunch, lunch, coffee break, dinner or even coffee/tea after dinner; Woo! definitely could meet all your requirement. The Asian twist western menu served with specialty coffee/tea could satisfy your craving.

4. October Coffee House

The first October Coffee House located  the Peak, with their roasted coffee and signature toast had attracted many coffee lover. Since then, they expand their business to additional 2 branches. All their cafe is designed with mainly cozy & nature concept. Furnished with almost 80% of wood material, dim lights, and some green certainly providing you feeling cozy.

Besides coffee, the signature toast bread is a must try!

5. PREGIO by Barista Cafe

PREGIO is well-known for the best coffee in town using best bean, fresh roasted gourmet bean imported from Hong Kong. In 2011, PREGIO by Barista Cafe won the best Signature House Blend at Hong Kong Barista Championship. The contemporary double height ceiling with mezzanine floor interior leaving you impression of cafe in Australia. Besides located at BSA Kolombong, they also have another branch in Plaza Shell.

6. One Roof

Quite a new modern minimalist cafe in town, serving fusion food, coffee and cakes. But from their menu, you will notice they serve quite a lot Korean style food. The 80% white theme interior furnished with cozy furniture giving you feeling of relaxing and comfortable. Recently, they are extending to the next door to serve better.

7. Biru Biru Cafe & Bar

Also known as Syarikat Biru-Biru or Blue Cafe. Why? Because the exterior wall is painted in Blue and it is very outstanding where you definitely will spot it’s existance from far. It is furnished with local kampung + contemporary interior design serving western + local foods concept. They also have Smoothie Bowl and Poke Bowl. They also have social dance workshop every Friday night, where you get the chance to experience and enjoy the social dance.

8. Ampersand & Specialty Coffee & Co-workplace

Another concept coffee house in Kota Kinabalu, designed with using mostly raw material. If you ask me, I would name the concept as “Honesty to Material”, where it is one of my architecture design title last time. That tittle only allow us to elaborate the application of true colour, true texture & true properties of the material in a design.

9. Pando Cafe

Besides Coffee Lab, Pando Cafe is also known as one of the furniture cafe in Kota Kinabalu, serving healthy eating. All the furniture in the cafe is open for sell. They are also the first cafe introduce smoothie bowl and sometimes provide workshop for those who interest in making smoothies bowl at home.

10. Joe Sun - Food & Coffee Co

Joe Sun furnished with minimalist concept interior, providing a sense of minimising the stress in state of mind. Located at the corner shop, surrounded with full height window and it’s simple hanging green pots in one wall somehow bring you close to nature. This cafe is famous for their food’s presentation and  Rainbow Latte.
