Ryohei Kawanishi, a Japanese fashion designer, took up the challenge of upcycling automobile airbags and turning them into jackets, pants, hats and other wearable items. So cool!
Nishikiwa Shokai, an auto parts recycler from Tottori requested Kawanishi to embark on this journey to turn airbags into clothing as they were unable to recycle their airbags.
Teaming up with Nishikawa Shokai, they've made a clothing line called 'Air Garments.' Due to its fire-resistant and durable nature of the airbags, they were upcycled into textiles first before they were created into a series of fashion items.
The collection is as creative as it is conscious. It reflects the importance of using upcycling to reduce pollution from waste. Comprising bags, hats and jackets, the collection has met with a certain degree of success among the younger generation.
