If your apartment or home has a balcony, then baby girl, you are one lucky son of a gun. You get this little extra place to chill out in the evenings, and admire the view, the sky and the sunset.
It is also a good place to start a little garden area by adding a few plants to your balcony. If you are a beginner then these plants will be perfect for your balcony:
1. Caladium
Or, as we Malaysians prefer to call it pokok keladi.
How to Keep Them Alive
+ They like heat, so make sure your balcony isn’t completely shaded.
+ They need plenty of moisture, so water whenever soil dries up.
+ Does well in relatively high humidity, perfect for Malaysian climate.
2. Hibiscus
Malaysia’s national flower will be a gorgeous addition to your balcony.
How to Keep Them Alive
+ Water frequently, especially during hot months.
+ They love sunlight, so make sure that they are exposed to direct sunlight on your balcony.
+ If leaves start turning brown, then hold back on the watering
+ Prune at least once in 6 months, removing weak looking branches.
3. Desert Rose
Add a little colour to your balcony.

+ Water frequently during hot months, but refrain from watering during the rainy season
+ It does well in the heat so it will do well on your sunny balcony.
4. Jade Plant
The lucky plant, so take care of it and you’ll get some good luck.
How to Keep Them Alive
+ Never let it dry up, so water it when the top of the soil is fry to touch
+ They need a lot of sun, so make sure you put them on the sunny side of your balcony
5. Wishbone Flower Plant
They are so pretty; your balcony deserves them!
How to Keep Them Alive
+ Water until the soil is soggy but not too soggy
+ When a flower dries up and dies, be sure to remove it
6. Basil
Having this will help you dive into a little Thai cooking. Yummy.
How to Keep Them Alive
+ Water at least 1 inch of water a week
+ Pinch leaves from the tips of your basil as soon as the plant has two sets of true leaves, to make it bushier. Snip the stem just above the point where two large leaves meet.
