Are we the only ones who really REALLY hated it when our mums forced a turtleneck over our heads and made us wear them when going out?
Bet you didn’t even think at that time that turtlenecks would make an epic comeback years later and that you’d be rocking a turtleneck all the time.
Surprisingly even here in Malaysia, where the weather is mostly hot, people out there are wearing turtlenecks. I can’t imagine the amount of sweat collected under there. Hey, maybe it’s a weight loss tactic, I don’t know if it would work, but if it is please tell me, I will happy wear it every day!
Anyway, if you have that one turtleneck and keep wearing it and people are starting to wonder if you’ve ever washed it, here are a few ways to style your turtleneck that will distract people from the fact that you are still wearing the same turtleneck:
1. Wear it under a knitted sweater vest
Another item of clothing that we all hated when we were younger, the sweater vests! But combine a turtleneck and a sweater vest and you get a classy and chic outfit that will make heads turn!
2. Ditch the pants and pair it with a skirt instead
The normal way we all would wear a turtleneck is with a pair of jeans or some kinda pants. Maybe change things up a little and replace the pants with a short skirt.
3. Turtleneck under a shirt or t-shirt
If you’re looking for something with a smart casual vibe then wear a shirt on top of your turtleneck. But if you want something super casual with a slight throwback to the 90s, then a t-shirt over a turtleneck would be good.
4. Wear it under an old dress
If you get bored of some of your old and out of style dresses, don’t just throw them away, you can always repurpose them and layer them on top of your old shirts or old turtlenecks.
5. Put on a blazer over it
Putting a blazer over anything makes you look more elegant but putting it over a turtleneck will make you look like a bold and intimidating classy baddie who can conquer the world.
6. Accessorise with some necklaces
Just like The Rock’s iconic 90s phot of him with a turtleneck and a necklace, you can do it too! Just put on several necklaces of various lengths and tadaa, you have a new stylish outfit.
