Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese pork rib dish cooked in broth that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. In Melaka, it's even served for breakfast!


However, despite the fact that the dish also has a chicken version called Chi Kut Teh, it is not Halal for our Muslim friends.

But that has changed thanks to TikToker Soya Belacan's recipe! Aisha, one of the content creators, is Chinese-Muslim, thus it comes from a reliable source.


So to make this version of Bak Kut Teh, here's what you need to do:

1. You need mutton (make sure it has some bones).


2. Blanch the meat in hot water.

3. Bring a pot of water to a boil then insert the MasFood Bak Kut Teh spice bag along with some garlic.

4. Next, include the meat in.

5. Season the broth lightly while cooking the mutton with 3 tablespoons each of sweet and salty soy sauce and oyster sauce so it will penetrate the meat.


6. Let the broth boil for 2 hours until the flavor of the herbs and spices is fully extracted. You may want to boil it longer if you like a more concentrated soup or vice versa.

7. 10 minutes before it's done, add in the tofu puffs, bean curd skins, enoki mushrooms, or anything else that you prefer. Perhaps some lettuce would do the trick too.

8. It's done! Serve the Bak Kut Teh with steamed rice.
