The firm that makes phones under the Nokia brand, HMD, unveiled a Barbie-branded phone on Wednesday. It has a traditional "flip" design, calls, and texts, but no social media or internet apps.
The HMD Barbie Phone is a hot pink gadget with an eye-catching "Barbie" emblem on the rear that pays homage to the legendary fashion doll line. It also flips open and shut.
It is the outcome of a collaboration with Mattel, the massive toy company that created the Barbie brand and has been manufacturing and distributing Barbie toys and accessories since 1959.
"With the support of a true cultural icon, Barbie, this phone invites you to give up your smartphone when you just want less browsing and more fun."
The Barbie phone comes equipped with a 0.3 megapixel camera, along with a flash torch for taking Y2K style images, HMD said. When taking a photo, users can add a Barbie camera frame to go around their pictures.
