A recent viral video has left netizens stunned, showcasing an unassuming yet incredibly valuable item, a single piece of Malaysian oud wood priced at an eye-watering RM310,000.

The clip, posted by TikTok user @scentisphere, who regularly shares content related to fragrances, features a man holding the prized piece of wood. As the camera zooms in on the item, he confirms its jaw-dropping value, explaining that it's none other than Malaysian oud, also known as agarwood.
For those unfamiliar, oud is derived from the Aquilaria tree, which is native to parts of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. What makes it so valuable is a rare natural phenomenon: when the tree becomes infected with a specific type of mould, it reacts by producing a dark, aromatic resin. This resin-soaked wood, once harvested, becomes the highly coveted oud.
In the video, the man goes on to explain just how precious the wood is. When asked how much liquid could be extracted from the RM310,000 piece, he revealed that after days of boiling, only about 300 grams of oud oil can be obtained.
That tiny yield, combined with the long wait for the tree to become infected and the laborious extraction process, is what drives the price sky-high. Oud oil is especially popular in the luxury perfume industry, known for its rich, deep scent that lingers for hours. Often referred to as "liquid gold," it's used in some of the world's most exclusive fragrances.
The video's caption further highlights the rarity and prestige of Malaysian oud, calling it one of the most expensive and sought-after fragrance ingredients on the planet. And with a price tag like that, it's no surprise this humble-looking wood has left viewers in absolute disbelief.
