Based on PM Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia is soaring to new and greater heights in 2025.
As the new year dawned, he has urged Malaysians to work towards greater achievements in 2025 as the country takes on the leadership of Asean. He described it as an important moment for the nation.
"To be respected as a sovereign, independent, and responsible nation, we must first put our country in order", Anwar said during his New Years message on television.

Anwar said Malaysia's leadership of Asean is a huge honor and gives the country a chance to shape discussions on key issues, such as the cruel and illegal occupation of Gaza.
He acknowledged that the current global situation is complex and may require Asean to adjust its role to face new challenges. "For that reason, leading Asean in the year ahead represents a huge responsibility", he said.
Looking back at the past year, Anwar admitted that some government policies were not popular and did not show quick results. However, he explained that these decisions were carefully planned and aimed at benefiting most Malaysians.
"[These policies] were rigorously assessed and implemented with sincerity and a clear political will of bringing benefits to the majority of Malaysians", he said, citing the example of changes to diesel subsidies.
He also stressed the importance of managing the wise economically to prepare for unexpected problems, such as the recent floods. Anwar promised that his administration would work with state governments to provide quick and effective aid to flood victims.
