Some medical staff at the Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu are placed under quarantine as a 55-year-old patient who was admitted to for emergency surgery they treated turned out tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement released by the Facebook page of the hospital.
It is mentioned in the statement that as the latest COVID-19 protocol of the hospital requires the patients to be tested for COVID-19, “the patient was swabbed prior to her procedure”, but because her surgery is really urgent, “the hospital proceeded by treating the patient as a suspected case while awaiting the COVID-19 test results.”

When her test result came back positive on April 17, the patient was immediately taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for further confirmation and treatment.
The hospital then added that all affected areas were closed for terminal disinfection and all staff who had been in contact with the patient have been traced and placed under quarantine. It also reassured the patients that “they are in a safe environment”.
