A man went missing after falling into the sea when his boat collided with another boat at Selat Dinding, Lumut last night.
In the incident at about 8 pm, the boat was boarded by V. Subramaniam, 50, with his wife and son on their way from Kampung Bharu, Sitiawan, to the waters of Pulau Pangkor before colliding with a boat carrying five men who were out fishing.
The collision which took place near the jetty of a flour mill resulted in the boat carrying five fishemen capsizing while Subramaniam fell into the sea.
The five fishermen were rescued by nearby fishermen and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim) team and taken to the Kampung Acheh Fisheries Jetty for treatment.
The victim, Subramanian, who was not wearing a life jacket, however, could not be found.
Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief of Operations, Khairul Azizi Kamaruddin said, they received an emergency call at 8.25 pm and the incident occurred about 400 meters from the flour mill jetty or less than three nautical miles from the beach.
“Following the incident, a total of 16 members from BBP Sitiawan and BBP Pantai Remis were involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victims.
"We were also assisted by six members, including divers from BBP Pulau Pangkor as well as other related agencies," he said when contacted today.
He said the SAR was currently more focused on the location of the boat collision as well as the surrounding area.
We hope they are able to find the victim as soon as possible.
