17-Feb-2022

Based on health minister KJ via a press conference today (Feb 17th), a lot of countries like Singapore, South Korea, UK, Australia and Japan are all facing an Omicron wave at present time, just like Malaysia.

As we're aware, 5 digits cases have been on the daily and yesterday (Feb 16th) stated the highest the country has ever received: over 27k cases. However, on the plus side, hospitalization and critical cases have been on the lower range as compared to before, noted Khairy.

He also announced that most of our cases are of category 1 and 2, but should one be of high-risk, have commodities, or are of old age, then even category 1 and 2 patients would be taken into hospital care, as a preemptive step to deal with the virus.

As of yesterday, over 77.5% of patients from categories 3-5 are those who have not received their booster, those who have not received two doses, or those who have not received a vaccine at all.

Thus it is vital that all go for their booster shots as soon as possible, as it has proven very effective in dealing with the severe symptoms of Covid-19.

Unfortunately though, lately there has been a rise in positive cases amongst children, KJ stated. Children ages below 5 do not have a vaccine from any country as of yet, but parents of children ages 5 and above should send their kids for vaccination.

Employers have also been requested wiggle-room for employees with kids, to take time off and bring them for their vaccination appointments.

Besides that, employers should also minimized employee contact best as possible. Severity aside, the numbers should be motivation enough to lessen gatherings, company meals, working from the office, so on and so forth.

Last but not least, starting tomorrow (Feb 18th), he also stated that daily cases would no longer be announced every evening, and instead noted the following day, together with every other statistic on Covid-19.
