A video of an Axia driver being forcibly dragged out of his car on the street and speeding through a red light has gone viral. Following a police investigation, it was revealed that the reason for the robbery was due to the driver's mother's failure to repay a loan of RM100,000, which led to three men seizing her son's car at the traffic lights of Jalan Bagan Lalang yesterday.
In the incident that occurred at 7:45 am, the man involved was said to have stopped at the said traffic lights when suddenly approached by three men, two of whom fled with the Perodua Axia car he was driving.
The Chief of North Seberang Perai District Police, Mohd Asri Shafie, stated that acting on a report, they apprehended three local men aged between 27 and 49.
He explained that the arrests were made in the vicinity of Seberang Jaya, Butterworth, and Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
"Based on investigations, it was found that the 57-year-old mother of the victim had borrowed RM100,000 from a man in 2020 and agreed to surrender her son's car if she failed to repay the loan.
"Since the mother failed to repay the loan, the man hired three other men to seize the car as agreed upon by the woman in a contract.
"Investigations into this case are still ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today.
