Transport Minister Anthony Loke has introduced a new initiative to help Malaysian motorists settle unpaid Road Transport Department (JPJ) summonses. The special RM150 flat rate applies to specific summonses and aims to reduce the burden on offenders while encouraging prompt settlement.
Offences Covered
According to Business Today, the RM150 offer includes summonses for the following violations:
AwAS Summons (Summons 53A): Issued for speeding or running red lights as detected by the AwAS camera system.
Notice 114: An investigation interview notice.
Notice 115: Affixed summons notice.
These discounts typically carry a fine of RM300, but the flat rate provides a significant discount for a limited time.
To facilitate payments, JPJ announced that fines can now be settled conveniently via the MyJPJ app. In a social media post, JPJ emphasized that this digital initiative aligns with its ongoing efforts to modernize its services.
"The MyJPJ app was introduced to make it easier for people to settle their fines. This new feature is part of JPJ Malaysia's ongoing digitalisation efforts, keeping up with technological advancements and future public needs," the post stated.
Payments can also be made at JPJ counters, kiosks, mobile counters, or through the JPJ website.
Offer Period
The offer is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: January 3, 2025, to March 31, 2025.
Phase 2: April 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025.
During these periods, motorists with outstanding summonses can take advantage of the reduced rate to settle their fines.
Loke, who announced the initiative at the launch of the new JPJ Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya office on January 2, explained the motivation behind the decision.
"All three notices have a fine of RM300, but we're offering a special rate starting tomorrow for six months to let people settle them. If they don't pay, they won't be able to renew their licenses," he said.
He also revealed that there have been 2 million unpaid summonses recorded nationwide since 2018.
This initiative serves as an opportunity for road users to clear their outstanding fines at a reduced cost while avoiding future complications, such as being unable to renew their driving licenses.
Motorists are encouraged to act promptly during the offer period to take advantage of this financial relief and contribute to better compliance with road regulations.
