According to PM Ismail Sabri in his parliamentary reply, the official residence needed a new and improved image to ensure safety as well as to preserve Malaysia’s image to foreign VIPs. The issue was raised after it was recently revealed PN government had reportedly spent over 1 Million for ministers' offices' renovation.
Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh commented on the statement, saying that the RM30 million spent on renovations at Seri Perdana could have helped provide food baskets to more than 200,000 families in 70 parliamentary constituencies.
The discourse was initially raised by opposition MP Mahfuz Omar during the recent parliamentary seating in which he questioned such high expenditures at a time where the country is still badly affected by the COvid-19 pandemic.
