As we all know, the fierce North Korea is a country that ABSOLUTELY does not allow any entertainment content from other countries, movies, games, tv series – all of them are a hell no, unless it is from North Korea itself.
So, when a North Korean man who went to China decided to smuggle in the world-famous series Squid Game into the country and distributing it by selling USBs containing the series, things certainly did not escalate in a good way.
The man was caught after authorities caught seven high school students watching the violent drama.
The man who smuggled the series into the country was given the death sentence while the student who bought the USB from him was given life in prison, the other 6 students were sentenced to five years hard labor, and teachers and school administrators have been fired and face banishment to work in remote mines or themselves.
The arrest and sentencing of the seven students is the first time ever the government used the newly passed law on the “Elimination of Reactionary Thought and Culture,” in a case involving minors.
The law that was just publicized last year carries the death sentence for watching, keeping, or distributing media from capitalist countries, particularly from South Korea and the U.S.
