A social media uproar has ensued after a Malaysian woman shared her harrowing experience of being scammed by an opportunistic aunty. Taking to Little Red Book, she revealed how this cunning individual lured her into a web of deceit, not only for a free meal but also to exploit her generosity for a charity scheme.
Shockingly, she discovered that she was not the only victim, as other sales professionals had fallen prey to this aunty's tactics. It appears that the aunty specifically targets individuals in the sales industry, including insurance agents and financial planners.
The woman recounted her encounter with the aunty, who had arranged a meeting in Cheras under the pretence of seeking a financial plan for her son. Engaging in a three-hour conversation that revolved around family stories, the aunty eventually revealed her true intentions she was interested in securing a plan for her nephew, not her son.
They agreed to meet again on Tuesday to finalize the deal. However, when Tuesday arrived, the aunty's sister, who was supposed to sign the plan for her nephew, failed to show up.
Curiosity piqued, the woman asked the aunty how she had arrived at their meeting location. The aunty claimed that someone had given her a ride. Moved by compassion, the woman offered to drive her home. It was during this car ride that the aunty shared her involvement in a charity, purchasing groceries for a nursing home every week. She asked the woman if she would be interested in contributing to the cause. Having a charitable background herself, the woman agreed and promised to transfer funds to cover the cost of future groceries.
Later that evening, the aunty contacted the woman, claiming that both her son and nephew were interested in purchasing the financial plan. They agreed to meet again to finalize the transaction. Without delay, the aunty sent her bank account details, requesting a transfer of RM200 for the charity fund. Sensing something amiss, the woman suggested that they proceed with the plan to buy the groceries first and share the receipt, as her client was also interested in contributing. However, the aunty insisted on receiving the money upfront, raising the woman's suspicions.
Realizing the potential scam, the woman questioned the aunty's urgency. If they were already scheduled to meet in person to sign the deal, why couldn't the aunty wait to receive cash at that time? It dawned on her that the aunty's scheme could be lucrative, as she might be asking multiple individuals for RM200 each day. Additionally, she felt cheated since she had treated the aunty to a meal costing over RM50, while the scammer attempted to swindle her out of RM200. Frustrated, the woman boldly confronted the aunty in her social media post, expressing her disbelief and warning others not to fall for the same trap.
The revelation prompted other victims to come forward on Facebook, sharing similar encounters with the cunning aunty.
