The ocean is a vast and mysterious place, stretching endlessly across the horizon. Its sheer size is enough to leave anyone in awe, but what's even more astonishing is its depth plunging into darkness where no light can penetrate. Beneath the waves lies an entire world filled with creatures both beautiful and terrifying.
For those who suffer from thalassophobia the fear of deep water the ocean can be an overwhelming place. The thought of what lurks beneath its surface is enough to send shivers down anyone's spine. And recently, a viral video on X (@Channel4News) proved just how unpredictable the ocean can be.
A kayaking trip took a horrifying turn when Adrian Simancas was unexpectedly swallowed by a humpback whale while out at sea with his father. The shocking incident, which occurred off the coast of southern Chile, was caught on camera by his father, Dell Simancas.

In the blink of an eye, Adrian vanished beneath the massive creature. But just as quickly, the whale spat him back out, leaving him floating in the ocean alongside his kayak.
Speaking to reporters after the incident, Adrian described the terrifying moment:
"I thought that was it I had been eaten and swallowed. At first, I even thought it was an orca because we had been talking about them earlier. But once I was back out, I realized the whale might have just been curious or trying to communicate something," he said.
The footage has since gone viral, leaving many social media users stunned by the rare and bizarre event. However, some were equally impressed by the calm reaction of Adrian's father, who did not appear to panic despite watching his son get swallowed.
Meanwhile, some netizens couldn't resist making jokes, suggesting that the whale spat Adrian out because he didn't taste good. Others speculated that the whale never fully swallowed him, considering humpback whales have relatively small esophagi, making it unlikely for them to ingest a human.
Regardless of the theories, one thing is certain Adrian's kayaking trip turned into an experience he will never forget.
