What with the pandemic, the lockdowns and the quarantining, sitting down all day everyday, has now become our way of life. It is the much easier life that's for sure, however, too much sitting also come with its downsides.

The biggest is messing with one's body posture. Most people want good body posture, because let's admit it, who doesn't like looking at themselves, and liking what they see in the mirror right?

As a means to help with that, now more so than ever, here are 5 ways you can avoid from gaining a bad body posture.

#1 Don't slouch

Whenever you sit or you stand, be sure to not slouch. Slouching means that your spine isn't straight, and this can very well mess with your posture. Always stand tall, straighten your spine and make sure head, shoulders, hips and knees line up.

#2 Don't slump at your desk

Every time you sit, whether that may be at your home workstation, work workstation, or anywhere else in fact, remember to not slump at your desk. Again, this is bending your spine. Instead, make sure your back is straight, and get up and walk every once in awhile.

#3 Sit upright when driving

Another important position to consider is when you're driving. Many tend to not sit upright when they're behind the wheel. It is important that your spine retains its natural curve when you're sitting. So, be alert when you're in the driver's seat. A back pillow can also help. Place one behind the bottom of your back, and you're good to go!

#4 Be wary of 'text-neck'

In this digital day and age, a 'text-neck' is probably unavoidable. However, it can be corrected ever so often to make sure your spine isn't permanently crooked. All you got to do, is make sure you're texting/using your phone at eye-level. Instead of tilting your head down, lift your phone up instead.

#5 Avoid sitting cross-legged

The last step which many don't know about is sitting cross-legged. As professional, appealing or comfortable as it may look as well as feel, sitting this way actually shifts one's body alignment. The best way to sit is with both feet firmly on the ground.

So, these are the 5 basic steps. Follow obediently and you could be looking at a straighter body posture in no time at all.
