"I Apologise To All Malaysians." Why Did Namewee Return To Malaysia?

16-Mar-2021

Controversial influencer, music producer, and film director Namewee is once again gracing local headlines following his return to Malaysia, after residing in Taipei. In a new video released prior to his departure, Namewee decided to address a few things:

• He pledges full cooperation to local police upon return

• Video serves as a public apology to all Malaysians

• Cryptic analysis of current local politics?

As of right now, Namewee, or his real name Wee Meng Chee, is currently subjected to a 7-day mandatory quarantine and will be heading straight to the police station for interrogation over his film BABI, which had stirred quite a controversy last year.

Let's see what Malaysians think:

Unlike the government, Malaysians seem to be quite fond of Namewee and have publicly declared their support.

Now, one question remains: why did he decide to return home to Malaysia, knowing full well that he'll be facing strict treatment from the authorities?
