Dogs may also suffer from depression, just like humans. Unfortunately, depression in dogs is not as recognizable as depression in humans.

If your dog behaves differently, check for the following signs to see if they are unhappy or having depression.

#1. Their Appetite Change/ Gain Or Lose A Lot Of Weight

When we feel depressed, we will either eat too much or too little. Similarly, your dog will eat more or eats less than usual when they are feeling stress.

Besides, many of us hope that we can lose weight quickly. In fact, losing weight quickly is very unhealthy, and it is the same for dogs.

If your dog suddenly gains or loses too much weight, it is recommended that you can take your dog to a veterinarian for checking.

This may mean that they are feeling stressed, or it may be due to the food they eat.

#2. They Become Less Active/ Hide From You

Many of us like to spend time with our dogs after getting home from school or work. If your dog suddenly doesn't want to play with you/ hide from you, it may mean that they are unhappy. If this feeling lasts for a while, then you should take them for checking, because this may mean that they feel physically uncomfortable or painful somewhere on its body.

#3. They Don't Look At You

Dog lovers probably know that we should not look directly into their eyes of dogs for a long time because they will think you are challenging them.

If your dog suddenly avoids your eyes, it may mean that they are sick, depressed, or tired.

#4. They Shed More Than Usual

Some dog breeds shed more hair than others, but if your dog suddenly sheds more hair than before, they may feel a lot of pressure.

One way is to see if there are any bald spots on their bodies. If your dog shows this sign, it means they are under stressful condition.

#5. They Have Sleeping Problem

Many people have sleep problems, such as too much sleep or insomnia, when they are feeling more stressed.

Similarly, if your dog cannot fall asleep or sleeps too much at night, it may mean that they feel uncomfortable, and you need to take them for checking.

#6. They Lick Themselves

The most common reason a dog licks itself is that they may have fleas, skin allergies, or even because they are bored.

If they feel stressed or depressed, they may also lick themselves. Dogs will lick themselves because this is a way to relieve depression.

#7. They Are More Aggressive

Dogs are particularly tamer when they are with their master. If your dog suddenly becomes aggressive, it may mean that they are unhappy.

This may be because they are frustrated, or it may be due to illness or injury.

#8. The Pace Around The House

Dogs like to follow us, and whenever we are at home, they will want to follow us. But if you find your dog wandering in your home for no reason, it may be because they are bored, frustrated, or stressed.
