Former Even Stevens star Christy Carlson Romano is on the road to recovery after sustaining multiple injuries during a shooting trip gone wrong. The 40-year-old actress revealed she was hospitalized on Feb. 7 after being accidentally shot in the face while celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney's 42nd birthday in Austin, Texas.
Romano took to Instagram on Feb. 8 to share the harrowing experience with her followers, posting a video that showed visible injuries to her right eye and forehead.
"I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present," she wrote. "There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face."
Her husband, Brendan Rooney, quickly sprang into action, assessing her injuries before rushing her to the hospital.
"I was hit in five places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye," Romano detailed. "Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye, and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment)."
Despite the terrifying ordeal, the Kim Possible alum remains grateful to be alive, emphasizing how the incident reinforced the importance of cherishing loved ones.
"I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes," she expressed. "I'm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant."
In her video, Romano expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff and first responders who assisted her, describing them as "the most amazing, superhero-like people to take care of us at our most desperate times."
Acknowledging her resilience, she added, "Everythings kinda clearing out, but gotta say, I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day."
Rooney, who has been married to Romano for over 11 years, took to social media to commend his wife's strength.
"You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met," he commented on her post. "I am so thankful you are alive. I am so thankful you are the mother to our children. I wouldn't know what to do without you. I love you more than life itself."
Displaying her signature humor despite the ordeal, Romano playfully responded, "God saved me so I could tell you to clean up your empty cans around the house. I dunno, laughter helps."
Rooney also reposted her video on his Instagram Stories, urging followers to cherish their loved ones with the caption, "Kiss your loved ones."
As Romano continues to heal, fans and well-wishers have flooded her social media with messages of support, praising her resilience and positive outlook. Her experience serves as a reminder of life's unpredictability and the importance of treasuring every moment.
