A 24-year-old Malaysian man was hospitalized after being struck by a car while walking on the Causeway connecting Singapore and Malaysia during heavy rain. The incident occurred around 5:38 p.m. on Sunday (Jan 12), according to Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat.
In a statement on Monday (Jan 13), Asst Comm Raub said the driver of the car, which skidded due to the rain, lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with a road divider before crashing into a pedestrian, who was walking from Singapore to Malaysia.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).
The car's occupants, two Singaporean men aged 21 and 23, were also affected by the crash. The passenger suffered an injury to his left arm, while the driver escaped unhurt.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, and authorities are continuing their inquiries.
Asst Comm Raub emphasized the importance of road safety, particularly during adverse weather conditions. "We advise road users to exercise caution while driving, especially during bad weather," he said.
The police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Johor Baru South police headquarters to assist in the investigation.
