BATU PAHAT: A worker died when he fell into the spin chiller machine room at a chicken processing factory in Ayer Hitam here, in an incident at 9am yesterday.
Johor Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) director Husdin Che Amat said the 40-year-old victim died as a result of being stuck in the machinery.
Following that, he said, JKKP sent a team of investigative officers and based on the initial investigation, the victim, who was a general worker for the factory, was assigned to clean the factory machinery with two other colleagues.
"No production operation was carried out on the day of the incident, but when the victim was cleaning the spin chiller machine alone, he fell into the space and was squeezed by the spin chiller’s screw conveyor.
“The operation of the machinery was turned off by a colleague after seeing the victim's legs shaking from inside the machinery. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer, "he said in a statement today.
Following the incident, Husdin said, JKKP issued a prohibition notice to employers for failing to ensure that the spin chiller machinery was operated safely and to have a safe work system, especially the Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) system for cleaning machinery.
