In order to expedite up Penang's Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, the Federal Government will allocate funding, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The statement was issued by the Prime Minister when he delivered a speech on stage, as seen in a 33-second video posted by Penang DAP on Facebook. "The federal government would increase funding as part of a comprehensive plan to enable Penang to start operating its LRT project immediately," he stated in the video.
"We will meet with the state government to set up the scheme within a week or two," he added. "It involves a large amount of loans that require the involvement of the federal government."
The state's massive infrastructure project, Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), includes a number of key components, including the Bayan Lepas LRT project. The Bayan Lepas LRT line will run for 22 kilometres (km), from Komtar to Permatang Damar Laut, and it may be extended to three reclaimed offshore islands on the Teluk Kumbar coast, where eight additional stations will be constructed.
