When we think of a mosque, we often associate it solely with religious affairs. However, the Masjid Murtadha Dakwah Centre (MADAD) in Sungai Petani, Kedah, challenges this conventional notion. It stands as a testament to the evolving role of mosques in society, transcending the boundaries of spirituality to embrace commerce, education, and community engagement.
Recently, TikToker @tomfitree shared his fascinating journey exploring MADAD, shedding light on the multifaceted facilities it offers. This mosque is not just a place of worship; it's a dynamic community hub.

A Playground for Kids and a Quiet Oasis for Parents
One of MADAD's standout features is its children's playground, complete with a multi-level slide, all within an enclosed area to minimize noise disturbances for parents. It's a place where children can play while their parents keep a watchful eye.
A Haven for Travelers: The Capsule Hotel
The lower level of the mosque boasts a unique offering: a 20-capsule hotel and free family rooms open to everyone, including weary travellers seeking respite before continuing their journeys. Each capsule room features bunk beds, comfortable bedding, pillows, blankets, charging sockets, lighting, and privacy curtains.
A Vision Realized
The TikTok video shared by @tomfitree has garnered a wave of admiration from netizens, who are impressed by the mosque's ability to serve various aspects of community life. Many hope to see more mosques become open and inclusive spaces equipped with modern amenities.
MADAD is the realization of the dream of Allahyarham Mohd Murtadha Mohd Yusof, a free preacher, who envisioned establishing a dakwah (Islamic propagation) center in his hometown of Sungai Petani, Kedah. Today, his legacy lives on through his younger brother, known as Ustaz Saham, Mohammad Yaakub Yusra Mohd Yusof.
Beyond Worship: A Multifaceted Approach
Among the other facilities offered to the public are an integrated tahfiz (Quran memorization) centre, a home for the elderly, an e-sports room, and funeral management services.
Ustaz Yaakub Yusra, the custodian of MADAD, explains that their mission is not to close the mosque but to keep it open 24 hours, inspired by the noble example set by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who established the Prophet's Mosque in Medina as a one-stop centre for the poor, orphans, and travellers.
The MADAD Cat Park
In another video, @tomfitree shares his experience visiting the MADAD Cat Park, which houses various cat breeds for the public to interact with and enjoy. This park is open daily and free to all, fostering a warm and welcoming atmosphere for cat enthusiasts.

It serves as a beacon of inclusivity, offering a wide range of amenities and services to enrich the lives of those it serves.
