According to the Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, the Ministry of Health (MOH) will conduct COVID-19 screenings on more than 800 prisoners and 700 staff from the Sungai Buloh prison after a prisoner was confirmed positive for COVID-19.
He also mentioned that the prisoner who is a non-citizen, has been in there since 2016 as an undocumented immigrant, but he left the prison on March 13 and was moved to the Semenyih Immigration Detention Depot in late May. The COVID-19 test was carried out on May 31 and found out that the prisoner is tested positive for COVID-19.
Currently, the prisoner is being treated at the COVID-19 Low-Risk Patient Quarantine and Treatment Centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Datuk Dr. Noor Nisham Abdullah also said that they are looking at the prisoner's close contacts and Gombak District Health Department will conduct the screening on the close contacts of the prisoner and all the prisoners and employees at the Sungai Buloh Prison.
