In a now deleted video, two SPM students were recorded expressing their discontentment over their Sejarah SPM paper, which was unfortunately noticed by the authorities. The students in question were later arrested in their home, their phones confiscated and drug test was conducted.
Many were criticising this move, including the Lawyers of Liberty and politician Syed Saddiq, regarding it as unnecessary abuse of power. "Although I disagree with the derogatory language used, I don't believe section 233 is necessary.", says the Johor MP.
Bandar Kuching MP, Kelvin Yii has also expressed similar sentiment. "Whether we agree with the content of the TikTok videos these students need to be educated, guided and empowered."
However, netizens on Twitter viewed that it was a necessary action to take as freedom of speech doesn't equate to freedom from consequences.
How much do you agree? Let's discuss in the comments.
