A distressing incident has come to light as 23-year-old Dong Yi has accused her parents of physical abuse linked to her interracial relationship with Emiri, a 22-year-old Malay man.
What started as an innocent relationship at first has eventually led to Dong Yi's months long abuse at the hands of her own family. She noticed a sudden and disconcerting shift in her family's attitude toward her relationship. They began displaying racist behavior and consistently reprimanded her for her involvement with someone from a different racial background.
She described how her father and brothers physically assaulted her, leaving her body scarred. Shocking images of her injuries were subsequently shared on social media.
Following the incident, Dong Yi fled her family's home and sought refuge at a friend's residence. She reached out to Emiri, who traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh to support her. The couple eventually reported the crime to the police.
Despite leaving her family's home, Dong Yi and Emiri faced ongoing harassment. Her family attempted to contact her through social media, and Dong Yi discovered that her family had created social media accounts disseminating false accusations against Emiri while divulging personal information about the couple. Swiftly, they reported these false allegations and invasions of privacy to the authorities.
As a response, Dongyi and her partner took to social media for clarification:
As a result, the Ipoh police have summoned Dong Yi's family for questioning and announced an impending arrest warrant.
In their pursuit of justice and legal resolution, the couple has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to cover the associated expenses. Any surplus funds will be directed toward other organizations. Dong Yi can be reached and contacted through Instagram at @d0ng.y1, if you're interested in lending a hand or moral support.
This deeply troubling case underscores the pressing need to raise awareness and take decisive action against domestic violence and racial discrimination within families. Presently, authorities are actively investigating the matter, and Dong Yi and Emiri hope for justice and support in their quest for legal redress.
