A video of a passenger on a KTM train deliberately pulling the emergency brake has gone viral, sparking public outrage and a warning from Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). The incident, which took place on Saturday, October 12, caused the train to be delayed and led to KTMB sharing a CCTV recording of the event on social media.
In the footage, a male passenger and his friend were seen intentionally activating the emergency brake while the train was in motion at around 11:25 pm. KTMB used the video to raise awareness, reminding the public that any action disrupting train services is a serious offense.
According to KTMB, actions like pulling the emergency brake without a valid reason can lead to strict penalties under Section 122 of the Land Public Transport Act (Act 715), APAD 2010. Passengers found guilty of such offenses could face a fine of up to RM1,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.
"This incident is being shared as a cautionary reminder to prevent similar incidents in the future," KTMB stated in their social media post. "Anyone who uses the emergency signal device to stop a train without proper cause is committing an offense."
The video quickly gained attention online, with many netizens condemning the reckless behavior of the passengers involved. Several commenters called on KTMB to take firm action against the individuals responsible, emphasizing the potential dangers such actions could pose to the safety and efficiency of train services.
This incident serves as a reminder to train passengers of the importance of following regulations, as unnecessary interference with safety systems can disrupt travel and endanger lives.
