Fuiyo!
This year, selected restaurants and hawker stalls around Kuala Lumpur and Penang have been awarded the prestigious Bib Gourmand award in the inaugural Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang 2023. Exciting!
These well-known spots championed the list after careful and meticulous consideration by the certified Michelin inspectors. The selection criteria for Bib Gourmand and MICHELIN Stars follow a universal standard wherein anonymous Michelin inspectors examine all cuisines and simply assess the quality of the food. Here are the criteria, if you're curious:
+ Quality of the ingredients
+ Mastery of cooking techniques
+ The harmony of the flavours
+ Expression of the chefs personality in the cuisine
+ Consistency, both over time and across the entire menu
All in all, one Michelin Star, which denotes "excellent quality cooking, worth a visit," was awarded to four restaurants, two of which are in Penang and two of which are in KL. 32 restaurants won the Bib Gourmand award for serving good food at fair rates.
Below are the restaurants awarded with One Michelin Star:
1. Dewakan (Kuala Lumpur)
2. DC by Darren Chin (Kuala Lumpur)
3. Auntie Gaik Leans Old School Eatery (Penang)
4. Restaurant Au Jardin (Penang)
