On March, 9th, the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte declared that Italy and its 60 million residents have been locked down. It is part of the measures intended to control the outbreak of COVID-2019.
As the virus has spread throughout Italy and mainland Europe, other extreme measures include blanket travel restrictions, a ban on all public events, the closures of schools and public areas, as well as the stoppage of religious services including funerals or weddings.
Moreover, to execute the movement ban, transportation sites such as highways and train stations are constantly checked by the military police, railway police, and health workers.
This lockdown signifies the most onerous coronavirus response to be executed outside of mainland China.
Parts of Italy, especially the northern regions, are seeing an unusual number of patients and the healthcare system there has almost collapsed. As of March, 10, Italy has 9,172 confirmed cases and 463 deaths. Italy has the second-highest number of confirmed cases and death after China.
Hopefully, this new lockdown may help slow the further spreading of the virus because the outbreak of COVID-2019 has caused the breakage of many families as some of the infected people passed away leaving their beloved family members alone.
