A kindergarten teacher in Seremban fell victim to a pet scam and lost over RM70K after she tried purchasing a Scottish fold kitten from an alleged breeder in Indonesia.
According to The head of the Negeri Sembilan Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Superintendent Aibee Abd Ghani, the victim saw an advertisement about a Scottish fold cat on her Facebook page last Saturday, before contacting the seller and agreeing to purchase the breed for RM900.
The seller informed her of multiple procedures that need to be taken care of as part of the delivery process. At first, she was required to pay RM450 to Hong Leong Bank's account in the name of Tansiaupenga Siagian.
"Throughout the delivery process, the victim is required to pay a sum of money ostensibly as a procedure and so far has made 14 transactions amounting to RM69,030 on Saturday and Sunday," Abd Ghani added.
In the end, the victim never received what she paid for, and is now worried that her identity would be misused as she handed over a copy of her identity card and address to the scammer.
