The admission of ten female students to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Paul, an all-boys school in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, marks a significant milestone for one of the oldest educational establishments in the nation.
The school is excited to welcome its first batch of Year 1 students, and for the first time in its 125-year history, the corridors will resound with the voices of young girls. The official Facebook page of the school sent a message wishing the "lil' princesses" a happy first day of the 2024 school year.
According to The Rakyat Post, The chairman of the school's Board of Governors, Dr. Mahadevan Deva Tata, stated that adding female students has been a long-awaited step in response to the school's declining student body during the previous five years.
"Year One typically has over 100 students, but over the last five years, there have only been roughly 70. Because we didn't want this school to close owing to a lack of students, the prior headmaster asked us to take action. Before things get worse, we must make adjustments," he stated.
He also mentioned that many of the parents whose boys attend the school also wish to register their daughters for Years 2 and 3. However, only Year 1 students can register at this time.
Girls made up 10% of the 102 Year One students this year, according to Headmistress E. Margret, although this ratio is predicted to climb in the future. She said there were no parental objections and that she wanted to increase their chances of success in the future.
