This incident happened on Monday (23 November 2020) around evening 6.57 pm, police received a report from an Indian man saying that he saw a woman attempted to jump off a bridge nearby Jalan Mohd Sidin.
But, the woman remained to save after jumped off the bridge. Because she changed her mind after realising there is a crocodile in the Klang River. Let's check out her story.
Who is she?
She is an engineer that worked for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). She served TNB for 8 years and was later transferred from Port Dickson branch to Petaling Jaya branch seven months ago.
The initial investigation from the police is that she is still single. The reason that she wanted to commit suicide is probably due to the severe stress from work.
Crocodile 'saved' her life
Well, the crocodile did not save her life per se. But the crocodile's presence did make her have a second thought on her decision.
The alleged crocodile did not attach her or whatsoever according to the news report.
However, the public is advised not to go close to the river or swim in the river. Especially, during the rainy season. Crocodile apparently likes to hang out in the Klang River.
She saved herself, thanks to the crocodile
After she saw the crocodile in the river, she quickly swam back to the shore. Around 11.30 pm, the local public found her drenched with water a kilometre away nearby the river.
The aftermath
People should understand that people who want to suicide, they don't want to die. They just want to end the pain. This incident is the best example to showcase it. If the alleged woman wanted to die, she wouldn't swim back to the shore. She would have let the crocodile be and let herself sink in the river.
So far, there isn't any report that she is getting charged for attempting suicide. Because, in Malaysia, is still a crime under Penal Code section 309. Malaysia has yet to be decriminalise attempted suicide. We hope that this lady would be saved from getting charged by the police.
