Kuala Lumpur: A woman's showed kindness by trying to help accident victim but it turned into a tragedy when she and another man were hit by a car causing her to die at the scene while the other man was seriously injured at Kilometer 7.3 of the Maju Expressway (MEX), here, last night.
Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the initial investigation found that at 10.15pm, the white Proton Saga lost control before skidding in the right lane on the MEX Highway from Kampung Pandan Roundabout towards Putrajaya.
According to him, a 43-year-old woman who was driving a white Nissan Almera then stopped in front of the accident vehicle and tried to provide assistance.
“At the same time several other public vehicles also stopped on the left shoulder of the road to provide assistance.
"Suddenly, a purple Perodua Myvi driven by a man crashed into the two victims who were providing assistance, causing the woman to die at the scene while the man was seriously injured and sent to the hospital for treatment," he said in a statement, today.
Sarifudin said the public are advised to be more careful and concerned about personal safety when providing assistance to victims involved in road accidents, especially in winding areas and in dark conditions.
"It is also not recommended to for crowds of people to stop at accident areas as it can lead to congestion and this will cause delays for the security forces to provide assistance to the victims," he said.
