The whole world is mourning for 'little Rayan', who sadly passed away upon his extraction from a 32-metre-deep well. The five year old Moroccan, Rayan Awram, had fallen and gotten himself trapped inside the well since Feb. 1.
A massive digging and rescue operation was later made, but not without numerous obstacles. As the narrow passage made it impossible for rescuers to reach Rayan, any widening attempt had to be scrapped in fear of landslides. Instead, a horizontal passage was carved from the adjacent hillside in hopes to safely reach him.
While efforts were underway, food, oxygen and water were supplied to the young boy using a tube.
After days of working around the clock, rescuers finally recovered Rayan on Saturday night, but he was declared dead soon after. According to a statement by the royal palace, he reportedly passed away before rescuers could reach him.
Rayan's frantic rescue efforts had incited a worldwide outpouring support, with many well-wishers closely following his news in hopes of a miracle.
-May his family be granted strength amidst this tragedy-
