How is dolphin related to pink?
Well, a pink dolphin definitely sounds like something that would only appear in a cute or romantic Disney movie. But, no. They DO exist in real life!
WHAT IS A PINK DOLPHIN?
Pink dolphin in the Amazon basin are named Amazon river dolphin, also commonly known as pink river dolphin or boto. It is the largest species of river dolphin in the world with the adults typically weighs up to 400 pounds or 181 kg.

WHY ARE THEY PINK?
As the name suggests, pink dolphin is famous for its pink color. However, the dolphin is not born this way. In fact, it comes in mostly gray, and only slowly turns pink as it becomes older. A pink dolphin’s final color can be influenced by its behavior, capillary placement, diet, and exposure to sunlight. Furthermore, it will also flush bright pink when it gets excited.

THE THREATS THAT IMPACT THEM
Pink dolphin is a rare species, and is rapidly disappearing due to human activities.
Mercury pollution from small-scale gold mining activities poses a major threat to the Bolivian river dolphin, a subspecies of the Amazon river dolphin.
The species is also often killed and be used as catfish bait in the Brazilian and Colombian Amazon.
