Day 0.5: Venice at night
-16:30 - Arrive Venice Marco Polo Airport-
Our Airbnb is at Mestre, which is about 15 mins bus ride to Venice Island.
After having dinner made by our friendly China host, we went to Venice Island to walk around.
-Enjoy sunset at Grand Canal-
Venice is peaceful at night and there isn't much to do so we just went shopping.
Day 1: Milan day trip
-08:32 - Train to Milan from Mestre station-
-10:45 - Arrive Milan-
-Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano)-
Duomo means Italian Cathedral.
When we stepped up the stairs from the underground station and saw this magnificent building we could not hide our excitement. This marvelous Gothic architecture is the third largest cathedral in the world and it took 500 years to complete.
However, do beware of scammers at the square. There are also many pigeons at the square.
-Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II-
This famous instagram spot is just beside the Duomo. It is Italy's oldest shopping mall with beautiful glass roof top.
-Arch of Peace (Arco della Pace)-
-Gelato at Cioccolati Italiani-
Good quality two scoop gelato for only €3!
10/10 recommend.
-Eataly-
A giant Italian food hall+supermarket. You can have your lunch here and buy some food supply home.
-19:45 - Train back to Venice-
Most restaurants are only open for dinner at 19:30. If you would like to have dinner in Milan, take a later train.
Day 2: Venice, Murano, Burano
-Morning: Walk around Venice-
You can come accross many beautiful alleys in Venice so just wander around and get lost!
-St Mark's Square-
Many iconic buildings are around this popular tourist spot, including Saint Mark's Basilica, Saint Mark's Clock Tower, Doge's Palace and Bridge of Sighs.
If you walk along the river, you are also able to get an iconic postcard shot.
-Lunch: Dal Moro's Fresh Pasta To Go-
As one of the best pasta in Venice, Dal Moro's offers cheap and good pasta for only €7.
However, do note that there are no seats in the shop as it is a take away stall.
We went at 12:30 and there was no queue. Once we bought our pasta, the crowd started coming.
So go early and make sure to have google maps with you as the shop is hidden in the alleys.
-Afternoon: Visit Murano and Burano Island-
-Murano: Island of Glass-
Murano is famous for making glass. You can watch glass blowing in one of the glass factories.
We went to watch glass blowing in Former Church Santa Chiara Murano. The tickets are €5 each but it offers an authentic experience with very different atmosphere than what you see in factories. The show was splendid.
-Burano: Colourful houses and Laces-
Burano is definitely one of the most instagrammable spot in Venice.
It features rows of bright and colourful houses.
The island is also famous for lace making.
-Dinner: Trattoria Bar Pontini-
We queued for 40 mins in the rain but it’s worth it. The restaurant is just by the river which offers you a great view.
The pasta is delicious and the seafood is very fresh.
Spent about €20 per person.
Day 3: Venice Island
-0830- Boat ride to St Mark's Square-
The vaperetto or water bus is the main transportation in Venice.
The view on boat is very different from just walking.
We are also able to get a great shot of Rialto bridge from the boat.
-Saint Mark's Basilica-
Entrance to the Basilica(which means church in Italian) is free.
It opens at 9:30am. We went at about 9:10am and the queue is already very long.
The internal structure of Saint Mark's Basilica is spectaculating, however, it is not allowed to take photos inside the church.
Tip: Line up early in the morning to avoid super long queues
-Doge's Palace-
Ticket price: €13
The architecture inside Doge's palace is definitely more beautiful than the outer view. You are also able to walk on the Bridge of Sighs and visit the prison.
Tip: Get tickets online to skip the queue.
-Lunch at Farini-
This highly rated bakery serves fresh pizza, pastries, coffee and cold pasta.
The food is good and price is affordable. Spent about €6 per person.
The shop can be very crowded at lunch time. Will definitely recommend it for a quick lunch.
-Libreria Acqua Alta: World's most beautiful bookshop-
This bookshop is famous for it's extensive amount of books.
There are all kinds of books piled to the ceiling and filled in bathtubs and even a gondola.
