A 42-year-old woman was fatally attacked by a 29-year-old man on Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, Pulau Pinang, believed to be driven by jealousy. The victim was found covered in blood by members of the public before the incident was reported to the police.
Authorities have stated that the investigation revealed the suspect attacked the victim with a machete before fleeing the scene. The severely injured victim was then taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment and was pronounced dead at 11:58 am.
"As part of the investigation, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (JSJ) at the Police Headquarters and forensic experts visited the crime scene. The investigation at the site led to the discovery of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the vicinity and eyewitnesses," said the authorities.
The machete believed to be used by the suspect, who is also a factory operator, was found at the scene. He added that a manhunt for the suspect was initiated before a police team from the D9 Division of the Police Headquarters in Penang Contingent arrested the suspect to assist in the investigation.
Following the commission of the crime, the suspect purportedly leapt from the Penang Bridge but was subsequently rescued by fishermen. Currently, the suspect is held in custody at Penang Hospital for medical treatment due to sustained injuries.

The case has been categorized under Section 302 of the Penal Code, corresponding to murder. As part of the ongoing investigation, the public is strongly encouraged to share any information about the case with the designated investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Nasrina Darus, via phone at 04 576 2222 (extension 2275) or by reaching out to any nearby police station.
He mentioned that a team from the Perai Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location, and upon arrival, they found a SYM motorcycle believed to belong to the suspect abandoned on the shoulder of the bridge.
However, upon inspection, it was found that the man had been rescued by fishermen passing through the area before the case was handed over to the police.
