The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has forecasted a mix of clear skies, thunderstorms, and strong winds throughout the upcoming Ramadan period.
According to METMalaysia director-general Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, this year's hot and dry weather cycle will be less intense compared to the previous year. Mornings are expected to be clear, while thunderstorms and strong winds may develop in the afternoon and early evening, particularly in the western and interior regions of the Peninsula, as well as parts of Sarawak and Sabah.
Meanwhile, northern states such as Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan are likely to experience slightly hotter and drier conditions.
Dr. Mohd Hisham also noted that the ongoing La Niña phenomenon remains weak and is expected to persist until mid-year. While haze and hotspot incidents are common between July and September, he stated that it is still too early to predict their severity this year.
However, he cautioned that forest fires in neighboring countries, combined with local fires, could contribute to transboundary haze affecting Malaysia if conditions worsen during the southwest monsoon.
