Two of the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) officers were charged in the Sessions Court today on charges of forcing an enforcement officer to hand over RM40,000
Kluang MACC P29 Assistant Superintendent, Amir Izham Shahak, 32, pleaded guilty to the charge Johor Bahru MACC P42 Superintendent, Wan Kamarul Zaim Wan Mansor, 34, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read together before Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail.
The two accused were charged jointly as government agents, namely Assistant Superintendent P29 of the Kluang MACC and Superintendent P42 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Kluang Branch and the Johor Bahru MACC for their corruption offenses.
The two were accused of forcing an individual to pay them RM40,000 in cash allegedly to help the person's case, which was being investigated by the MACC.
For the offense, the two officers were charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both if convicted.
It sure is ironic that the officers whose main responsibilities are to prevent corruption happened to have commited the very offense themselves.
