A bodyguard was seriously hurt during a murder attempt at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA).
According to The Star, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that a shooting occurred at approximately 1.30 a.m. within the KLIA 1 arrival hall in a statement issued on Sunday (April 14).
"During the incident, a man fired two shots." One of the rounds struck the victim, who worked as a personal security.
"The suspect then left the scene. Follow up investigations revealed that the suspect had planned to shoot his wife, who was waiting for the arrival of an umrah group," he added.
The shooting left the victim with grave injuries.
"This incident is unrelated to terrorist operations or groups, and it stemmed from a personal issue. "The situation at KLIA is secure and under control," he stated.
The matter is being investigated as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act. The police suspected the culprit had fled north.
According to Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act, persons found guilty will face a penalty of up to 20 years of imprisonment.
