In an unusual incident at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court, a man who pleaded guilty to drug possession is seeking a lower bail amount, highlighting his various commitments, notably the responsibility of caring for his cats.
The accused, Erwan Abdul Ghani, stands accused of possessing 4.3 grams of marijuana at a residence in Kampung Paya Jaras, Sungai Buloh, as per the charge under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, Erwan could face a maximum jail term of five years, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Farah Sofea Norazman proposed a bail amount of RM8,000 for Erwan, who appeared in court without legal representation. However, Erwan, in a unique plea, requested a reduction in bail, stating, "I hope the bail can be reduced as I have many commitments, including cats that need to be fed."

We're guessing it worked as magistrate Sasha Diana Sabtu took this request into consideration and subsequently set the bail at RM3,800 with one surety. The court has scheduled June 7 for the sentencing of the case.
