ALOR GAJAH: A female teacher was killed in an accident with a lorry at the T-junction at Alor Gajah Lama, here, this morning.
It is understood that the incident took place at about 6.30am when the victim, Sakura @ Muna Sakura Muhammad Perang, 54, was on her way to work at a secondary school in Durian Tunggal.
Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief, Superintendent Hasan Basri Yahya, said the victim who was injured in the head was later confirmed dead at the crash site.
During the incident, he said, the lorry that was driven by a 43-year-old man was the way from Krubong to Nyalas, while the victim was on the way from Taman Nuri to Durian Tunggal.
"Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, the accident is believed to have occurred when the car driven by the victim from the direction of the junction suddenly tried to turn right.
"The unloaded lorry that happened to pass by the scene, was believed to have failed to dodge the sudden turn and crashed into the right side of the victim's vehicle," he said.
Following the collision, he said, the victim's car was dragged for more than six meters.
"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team before her body was sent to the Forensic Department, Alor Gajah Hospital, for an autopsy.
"The two vehicles involved were then brought back to the Alor Gajah Traffic Police Station to be sent to PUSPAKOM for further action," he said.
Hasan Basri said further investigation was continued in accordance with Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
