A TikTok video that was uploaded over the weekend quickly gained popularity after the creator claimed that she and her friend had each received a complimentary shawarma after flirting with the server at a well-known shawarma restaurant in Bukit Bintang.
The video received more than half a million views and over 24k likes on TikTok. The audience on Twitter however, was less forgiving. It quickly sparked the discussion on pretty privilege, with many obliterating the creator for her viral content.
Following the criticism, the creator stepped forward to confess that the restaurant management itself had approached her for a paid content and revealed that the video was merely for endorsement purposes.
Despite her confession, many viewers maintained their opinion that there are better ways to create content while some argued that at the end of the day, that's simply how marketing works in a way that anything that catches attention at a large scale albeit negative, the campaign would still be considered a success.
