In an extensive operation today, more than 1,000 members and officers from the General Operations Force (PGA) took control of 'mini Dhaka' situated on Jalan Silang.
This specialized operation, initiated at 11 AM, was geared towards inspecting and raiding the foreign community which, under the guise of locals, had been conducting businesses.
Equipped with tools and fully-armed, security forces entered each premise located within the four blocks along the aforementioned street.
During the operation, one of the premises was found to house foreign nationals engaged in a tourism agency business that also provided private clinic services. Additionally, an array of medications suspected to be from Bangladesh, lacking approval from the Ministry of Health (MOH), was discovered.
Moreover, the raid disclosed rooms rented out in an unkempt and filthy condition.
The primary objective of the raid was to address the surging presence of foreigners along Jalan Silang, their commercial activities, and the employment of foreign workers.
Following the encirclement, most foreign nationals, primarily from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar, were unable to evade capture. By 1 PM, authorities had detained over 500 foreign nationals. They were subsequently transferred to the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) for document verification processes.
Prior to this, footage circulating on social media depicted authorities pursuing unidentified individuals at the site, causing a stir among netizens who likened the scenario to a scene from an action film.
